“Let the sun stop shining, and we will preach in darkness. Let the waves stop their ebb and flow, and still our voice shall preach the gospel. Let the world stop its revolutions, let the planets stay their motion; we will still preach the gospel.”

Charles Spurgeon

What is the True Gospel?

The word gospel literally means “good news” and occurs 93 times in the Bible, exclusively in the New Testament but inseparable from all of Scripture, being first introduced in the garden (Genesis 3:15). In Greek, it is the word “euaggelion“, from which we get our English words evangelist and evangelical. The gospel is, broadly speaking, the whole of Scripture; more narrowly, the gospel is the good news concerning Jesus Christ and the only way of salvation. Nothing in this life is more important to understand than the this. Many people, especially in the western world, misunderstand its true meaning. Don’t be one of those people! Click “What is the True Gospel?” above to find out exactly what the Gospel, as preached for centuries, truly is all about.

“Whenever we praise God, what do we do? We simply say what He is! ‘You are this and You are that.’ There is no other praise. We cannot fetch anything from anywhere else and bring it to God; the praises of God are simply the facts about Himself! If you want to praise the Lord Jesus Christ, tell the people about Him.”

Charles Spurgeon

Come, Jesus, Come! As we wait on the Lord’s return, our mission at Herald the Truth Ministry is to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) by doing the following:

  • To Go. We are sent into the world (John 17:18), not to sit solely in Christian circles, but to go about our daily lives living out this truth that is now within us, in order to seek out the lost with the hope of the Gospel, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
  • To make disciples of all nations. Disciples are followers and in this context they are followers of Jesus Christ. We don’t make followers of our own systems of thought, we point each and every person toward Christ. He is who we get our example and He is who tells us, through Scripture, what we must know about God, our world, ourselves and our purpose. Since the term Christian means “little Christ” or “Christ follower”, we strive to walk in the same Way in which He walked, making Him and His Gospel known as we live out our purpose while bringing others alongside us to do the same. In doing this, we encourage each and every person to test yourself and the teachings you hear (2 Corinthians 13:5). We must search the Scriptures daily (Acts 17:11) and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in all Truth just as Jesus promised He would (John 16:13). We are to lead others to Jesus for their only hope for salvation (Acts 4:12).
  • To baptize all who believe and choose to follow Christ. Baptism is not a requirement for salvation, but it is a response to it. It is also Christ’s command for all believers (Matthew 28:19-20) for the purpose of demonstrating to the world their outward profession of their inward change (2 Corinthians 5:17). It is proclaiming to all that we have died to our old self and are risen with Christ, trusting in Jesus as our Savior and submitting to Him as Lord of our life. This public profession represents a believer’s understanding that we are redeemed from sin by the work of Christ on the cross, and we are set free from the fear of death because of His resurrection. Our life now, no matter how long or short, is a life devoted to Jesus and His Kingdom, and we are His citizens in it forever and always. Through baptism, we proclaim this all to the world and follow in Christ’s footsteps, from death to everlasting life (Romans 6:4-23, Galatians 2:20).
  • To teach all that Jesus has commanded. We are commanded to teach others what Christ has made known and commanded of us. The Bible has much to say about this. Look into these verses to see for yourselves:
    • Colossians 3:16
    • 2 Timothy 2:2
    • 2 Timothy 2:24-26
    • Deuteronomy 6:4-9
    • Romans 15:14
    • Romans 2:19-21
    • Matthew 28:19-20
