King of kings

Surrendering to the King of kings and Lord of lords doesn’t remove your freedom but, rather, it is how to finally find it.

Christians Live Under God’s Authority

If you are a true follower of Jesus Christ, born again (John 3:3-8), a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17); you recognize that all of mankimd is living under a Theocracy. That is, we are living under Christ’s rule and reign (Philippians 2:9-11; Romans 14:8-9; Luke 6:46; Romans 12:1). Any other concept of ultimate governing authority is anti-Christian and is not what believers are called to live under. This does not mean that Christians are not to submit to local governing authority, the Lord commands that we do as long as it does not conflict with God’s Word. What it does mean is that we live under the Lord’s reign first and foremost, above all else, this is where true liberty is found. We have an enormous misconception here in the United States as to what true freedom and liberty really means. This nation now thinks that freedom is a blank slate with no bounds on what a person wants to do individually, a “free will” to do as I please with no restrictions or restraint on that freedom. Well, that is not what the founding fathers of our nation here in America believed nor established when they submitted under God’s authority to be a nation “under God, with liberty and justice for all”. That is our pledge even to this day as a nation. But we have far removed that concept from our thinking, from our schools and from our hearts. Now, we are just like the Israelites in the prophet Samuel’s day.

Choosing Our Own Way is Apostasy

Before the rule of human Kings, when God’s people were under the true King, God Himself, the people of God submitted solely to Him as their authority and rule, but there came a time where they decided what was right in their own eyes. They decided they did not want God as their king, they wanted “freedom” from the Sovereign King to do as they pleased and to be ruled by men (1 Samuel 8:4-8). But God warned them through the prophet Samuel that they did not know what they were asking for (1 Samuel 8:9-18). God told them that they will actually be in bondage to men who do not share His attributes of omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence, love, mercy and grace, but have wicked hearts and will put weights of burden on this people. They did not listen to God and we do not listen to Him today as a nation (1 Samuel 8:19-22). We are repeating the same folly. The more we seek freedom from Gods moral law, rule and reign, the more rules we need to establish to combat the results from our apostasy. Think about it, God only has 10 commandments (Exodus 20:1-20), we have thousands of laws. We are no different from the Jews who established over 600 man-made rules because they couldn’t abide by God’s standard, but that is how God designed it.

God’s Design Fulfills Our Greatest Need

You see, God’s moral law is such a high standard that we as sinful people cannot keep it, we break it even moment by moment. It is a mirror to show us that we cannot keep it on our own. You may ask why God would do this? I would tell you that this question is critical to seeing why God has positioned us in this way. It is to point us to our need for His Soveriegn rule as our King, and to show us our desperate need for a Savior to save us from our sins, for they are enumerable (Psalm 40:12; Galatians 3:22-23).

The Bible tells us that the moral law is our “school master”, our teacher, to bring us to Christ (Galatians 3:24). It is to show us our sin and show us our greatest need, salvation from the punishment of sin by an infinitely Holy God. A punishment that involves separation from Him in all capacities except His righteous wrath (2 Thessalonians 1:9; Romans 6:23). But, God is rich in mercy and provided us a Savior from this in the God-man of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:4-5). God Himself took our punishment for us on the cross and rose on the third day, defeating our greatest enemy death, and He reigns in eternal glory at the righthand of God the Father, ruling in the hearts of His people until He returns (1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Acts 2:22-36). He will return to rule and reign on this earth and establish a new heaven and a new earth, an eternal Kingdom which will have no end, a Kingdom whose eternal King is God (Revelation 21:1-8).

As Christians, We Submit to Christ as King

When we submit to Christ’s Lordship as King of our life He governs and guides our life. It is freedom like no other, but not a blank slate freedom. It is a freedom under Gods rule and authority. A rule and an authority that is simple and easy to obey when God Himself dwells in you. A rule and authority that says we must love the Lord our God with all our heart, and with all of our mind, and with all of our strength and love our neighbor as our self. Is that not the freedom we want to live in? Imagine a nation who all submitted to Christ, was born again, and lived by His way, in His freedom. Wouldn’t that be heavenly? It is coming for all who are submitted to Him, but for those who reject Him, there will only be outer darkness. A weeping and nashing of teeth, separated from His goodness and love and mercy and grace, an eternal torment in a burning lake of fire which is hell (2 Thessalonians 1:6-10; Revelation 20:12-15). That is not freedom at all!.

Is Christ Lord of Your Life?

Who rules your life? Who guides your decisions and directs your path? The Creator has a plan and purpose for your life, and He longs to reveal them to you as you walk with Him in trust and surrender.

When we submit to Christ’s loving authority, we discover freedom—not restriction. Then we can experience the joy of living, as God intended for His children (John 15:11).
